CEMEX Philippines received recently the FPI Outstanding Sustainable Development Award in the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) category, in recognition of its efforts to practice sustainable business methods and contribute to nation building. The award was given by the Federation of the Philippine Industries Inc. (FPI) during its Philippine Manufacturers and Products Summit held at the Hotel InterContinental Manila.
The annual award aims to give recognition for outstanding practices in sustainability within corporations, associations and local government units nationwide. In 2012, CEMEX blazed the trail for sustainability under its CSR umbrella banner: “BUILD the NATION TOGETHER”. CEMEX was lauded for its efforts as it strengthened its CSR program and aligned it with key focus areas such as environmental protection and biodiversity conservation, community development and infrastructure, safety, health and sanitation, and education among others. “Our thrust has always been progress for this nation and we know that the right path is through sustainable development,” said Pedro Palomino, Country President of CEMEX Philippines.
The Community Development Programs of CEMEX also promoted the collaboration and synergy between the company and the local government, NGOs, and society groups in two areas: Brgy. San Jose in Antipolo City where the Rizal Plant is located, and the City of Naga in Cebu which plays host to the APO plant. "We commit to continue these programs, and expand on our efforts in nation building through sustainability,” Palomino concluded.
This year's panel of judges is chaired by Hon. Ramon Paje, Secretary of the Department of the Environment and Natural Resources, and includes Jaime Galvez Tan, former Secretary of the Department of Health, Hon.
