Mr. Bonar Laureto, PBE Executive Director, was invited to talk about "Sustainable Business: Ensuring Long-Term Profitability in the Countryside" at the Provincial Convention Center, Surigao City on November 23, 2012. The well-attended conference was organized by the provincial government of Surigao del Norte and the Surigao City Chamber of Commerce and Industries (SCCI) to bolster local enterprise grounded on responsive governance, green enterprise, and productive people. Among the participants were local government leaders, local business leaders, and the chair of the Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA).
Mr. Laureto encouraged the business community to veer away from the traditional business model of the interactions among product-customer-profit to a model that incorporates the natural capital as a valuable component of any business. By protecting natural capital, business will have more sustainability and profits as raw materials and energy are all sources from natural capital.
Local executives and national government agencies talked about current initiatives to bolster the economies of municipalities. Other topics included mining, aquaculture and organic farming, franchising, e-commerce, and corporate social responsibility.
